Community Program summary 2016 – 2018
The Montclair Drifters conduct several community programs and distribute small grants to a number of community organizations. The community programs include reading to more than 100 children during the Week of the Young Child, food donations to area churches, breast health and wellness programs and donations to breast cancer prevention and awareness programs including The Sisters Network and AAngels, and participation in and donations to the Susan G. Komen Walk and the American Cancer Society’s Race for the Cure. In addition, the Montclair Chapter provides support for parents and children with autism, particularly with Nassan’s Place. The Montclair Chapter continues to support Seniors at the East Orange Senior Center and with programming, including the annual Breakfast and Gift Giving Program with Bailey Holt Senior Living Facility and much more. For many years, the Montclair Chapter has conducted programs with area homeless shelters; namely Isaiah House and Apostles House and conducted “Coffee and Coats” and “Cocoa and Coats,” coat giveaway program and donated to several food pantries including Toni’s Kitchen in Montclair and to the First Baptist Church of Madison. For families, The Chapter contributed annually to the Tri-Cities People’s Corporation and to the Visiting Nurse Association’s Thanksgiving Dinner program for single mothers.
